Brief Club History
Corporation Swimming Baths, in Bath Street, Hawick was the original home of Hawick Swimming Club. The baths were gifted to the town by James Glenny, Charles Wilson and George Wilson, owners of Wilson & Glenny Ltd, in 1912. Shortly after the Baths opened Hawick Swimming Club was established. Indeed we have trophies dating back to 1915.
In the 1950’s and 60’s the Club had successes with the talents of Ronnie Murphy, Tom Robson and Brian McConnell. Ronnie became Scottish Champion at 50, 100 and 150 yards freestyle. When his swimming career finished Ronnie became Baths Master and shared his experience and knowledge with the Club over the years. The Old Baths closed in 1982 and the Club was disbanded. As there was no facility to develop swimming after TLC lessons, the Club was re established in 1995, by the current Chairperson, Alison Bruce, with Jean Amos as Coach.
Hawick Amateur Swimming Club is now a well established Club and is run entirely by voluntary qualified coaches and parent helpers. We compete in the Borders Junior and Intermediate League held at Galashiels, as well as other competitions in the Borders and Edinburgh Area.
